Ray Carman

May 5, 1931 — June 26, 2025

Ray Carman, 94, of Ferguson, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at the Jean Waddle Care Center.

He was born on May 5, 1931 to the late Ray and Virgie (Barker) Carman in Carman Creek, Kentucky. He was a founding member of the Cumberland Church of Christ in 1982, where he remained a devoted servant of the Lord throughout his life. Over the years, he served faithfully in many roles-including minister, youth minister, elder, and deacon-touching countless lives with his leadership and compassion. He was especially dedicated to the We Care Program, a ministry focused on reaching and supporting communities in need through both service and revival efforts.

A proud veteran of the United States Army and Air Force, he served with honor in the Korean War, completing two tours on the front lines. His work in telephone and radio communications was vital to his unit's success and safety, and he carried his military discipline and commitment into every aspect of his life.

Beyond his church and military service, he was deeply involved in his local community. From 1979 to 1996, he and his beloved wife Wanda owned and operated Spring Crest Draperies, a successful family business that served the area with care and craftsmanship.

He was also a passionate long-distance runner, known for his energy and endurance. He found joy in reading John Grisham novels, traveling, and exploring nature through hiking. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren, teaching them unique skills, sharing stories, and creating lasting memories.

He lived a life grounded in faith, family, and service-a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Wanda Louise (Hamilton) Carman, whom he married on April 7, 1955; his children, Steve & (Diane) Carman, John David & (Jackie) Carman, Judith & (Fred) Carman Richards, and Lisa Carman Millstead; grandchildren, Amber & (Andy) Goldman, Ryan & (Hillary) Carman, Carlee & (Johnny) Montes, Denton & (Ema) Carman, Ellie Carman, Jessica Carman, Jasmine Carman, Morgan Richards, and Hayden & (Amber) Richards; great-grandchildren, Jacob Carman, Levi Carman, Nolan Goldman, Rachel Goldman, Coulter Carman, Audrey Carman, Lettie Sue Carman, Remington Montes, Cannan Montes, Noble Montes, Benjamin Montes, and Clayton Carman; and sibilings, Carl & (Donna) Carman, Charlotte & (Gerald) Vaught, and Darrell & (Yvonne) Carman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth & (Norene) Carman; and a grandson, Adam Christopher Richards.
