Paul Eugene Ashley

Paul Eugene Ashley,”Gene” 79, of Somerset, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024 at his residence. He was in Hospice Care after an extended illness of congestive heart failure.

Gene was born on October 9th, 1944 in Science Hill KY. Gene was a genuine person who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a simple man, he treasured the little things in life, like greeting cards (he saved everyone he received) a cup of coffee with a friend or sitting around telling stories of the old days. He loved Old Time Country music and probably watched every Western movie that was ever made. A big fan of Elvis Presley and in our house, he made sure we knew the day he died. In his later years he grew to know the Lord and read the bible every day. He was a loyal friend and loved his family. When he lived in Dayton Ohio he worked in the construction field for many years, and as a night-time Janitor for Frisch’s in Moraine OH, where we have fond memories of helping him clean and making us hot fudge cakes afterwards. He retired from Kentucky Hardwood Lumber Company in Somerset KY. In Kentucky, he could be seen hanging out at the local BINGO Hall or Shell Station. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

Gene was preceded in death by: parents; Paul Eugene Ashley and Mildred Jean (Estes) Baugh, eldest son; Doug Eugene Ashley, brother; Donnie Ashley of Texas, sister; Patricia Ann Christie (Ashley), of Somerset, grandparent; Cecil Estes and Rosa Belle Richardson (Godby/Estes) and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Survivors include: son; Greg (Dana) Ashley, of Dayton Ohio, son; Joe (Tracy) Ashley of Dayton Ohio and daughter; Teresa (Randy) Mount of Dayton Ohio, his brothers; Delmer Baugh of Somerset, grandchildren; Logan (Amanda) Ashley, Sean (Beverly), Ashley, Amber (Ronny) Garland, Justin (Kim) Ashley, Robert (Olivia) Mount, Kyle (Zoey) Ashley, Tyler Ashley, Rosabella (Austin) Ricker/Mount and 16 great-grandchildren, former wife: Wanda Gallimore (Richard) Calder/Ashley, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro.Tim Ogle officiating.

Burial will be in Bethelridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 12:00 PM Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
