Michael Wayne "Old Man" Godbey, 64, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Friday, September 28, 2018 at his residence.
He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 8, 1953; son of the late Guston and Betty Jones Godbey. After graduating from Pulaski Co. High School he went to serve his country in the United States Army, where he would retire as a 5th year rank Staff Sergeant. He served as a volunteer for the U.S. Forestry Service - Fire Prevention, Public Affairs Officer for the Science Hill Fire Department, and Fire Prevention Officer for Science Hill Independent School. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Butcher Godbey; three sons, Matthew & (Crissy) Godbey of Somerset, Adam Godbey of West Palm Beach, FL., and Anthony & (Megan) Godbey of Somerset; a step-son, James Ray (Michele) Strickland of New York; a step-daughter, Rachel & (Brandon) Morrow of Somerset; a brother, Albert & (Diana) Godbey of Cincinnati, OH.; five grandchildren, James Michael Godbey, Lucas "Whippersnapper" Morrow, Catherine Godbey, Adalynn Godbey, and Parker Godbey; and a special nephew, Joseph Godbey of Cincinnati, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Marcus Wayne Godbey.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Evans and Bro. Lonnie Sewell officiating.
Pallbearers will be: Anthony Godbey, Matthew Godbey, James Godbey, Joseph Godbey, Brandon Morrow, Michael Morrow, and Lucas Morrow.
Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
Burial will be in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
