Melvin Lewis Coats

Melvin Lewis Coats, 78, of Science Hill, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at his residence. He was born on April 7, 1948 to the late Lester & Laura Margaret Coats in Midland, Texas.

Melvin was a retired Air Force Vietnam veteran and retired Army Desert Shield and Civic Service Veteran. Mel found great joy in motorcycle riding, fishing, and camping. Some of his happiest memories were camping and fishing with family, especially sitting by campfire and talking.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lavena; sister Mozelle; and brother, Marris.

He is survived by; his children, Melvin Bryan & (Laura), Ira & (Susan), his brother Marlan & (Blanche), several nieces and nephews, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be held in Midland, Texas.
