Melvin Ray Childers

November 29, 1942 — March 10, 2018

Melvin Ray Childers, 75, of Appling, Georgia, formerly of the Bandy community, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

He was born in Bandy, KY on November 29, 1942, son of the late Frank and Lena Hamm Childers. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Thailand, Germany, England, California, Texas and Georgia. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Appling, GA.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Wells Childers, whom he married on March 17, 1964 in Ringgold, GA, a daughter, Traci Nicole Childers of Appling, GA, three brothers, Robert Lee Childers & (Wilma) and John Earl Childers & (Sandy), both of Somerset, Ralph Franklin Childers & (Judy) of Richmond, KY, a sister, Wanda Faye Arbour of Norfolk, VA, brothers-in-law, Elmer Wells and Harrison Wells, Jr., sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Clark and Bessie Williams, a special cousin, B.J. Brown, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Estel Childers.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Monte Wells officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38.

Burial will be in Woodstock Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6 PM Wednesday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home
