Marjorie Young “Margie” Barrett, 90, of Somerset passed this life unexpectedly on March 2, 2024 at her home in Somerset, KY.
She was born on Oct 22, 1933 in Manchester, Kentucky to Mary and John C. Young.
Marjorie graduated from Oneida Baptist Institute, Oneida, Kentucky and then continued her studies at the College of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky. She rarely missed her Oneida class reunions and cherished those first friendships for life.
She married Denver Barrett on October 16, 1953, and they had two children, Marianne (John) Schroer, of Franklin, Tennessee, and David Barrett (Paula) of Alpharetta, Georgia.
Marjorie enjoyed a 50 year career at Citizens National Bank of Somerset. She began as a teller in 1966 and upon her retirement was a Vice President. During her career in banking she was a mentor to many and a friend to customers and colleagues alike. Her legacy at Citizens National Bank will be felt for years.
Everyone who knows Marjorie would describe her as being a friendly, funny, and giving person who had a cheerful greeting and a smile for everyone she met. She was a loving wife and doting mother who cherished her children and grandchildren. And she counted many people in the community as dear friends.
Marjorie was a member of First Baptist Church in Somerset and she loved her community of faith. She volunteered in many capacities and many of the congregants and staff members were like family to her.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Marianne, (John) Schroer, her son David (Paula) Barrett, her grandchildren Carly (Brandt) Jewell, Luke Schroer, Matt (Jodi) Schroer, Lake Barrett, Amy (Dennis) Beal, Rachel Barrett, Erik Barrett, Sarah (Marcus) Morelli, Jake (Tricia) Morton, and great-grandchildren Owen Schroer, Stetson Beal, Ellie Morton, Stella Morton, and Luca Morelli.
