Margaret Sowder Girdler, age 93, of Science Hill, passed from this life on Friday, August 12, 2022, at the Somerset Nursing and Rehab Center.
Margaret was born in December 19, 1928, and was the daughter of the late Mitchell and Bonnie Hall Sowder.
Margaret was a former employee of the Palm Beach Company and Sewing Unlimited both in Somerset. She also once worked part-time in the concession stand at the Lake Cumberland Speedway.
She enjoyed UK Basketball and attending the many activities of her great-nieces and great-nephews including baseball and basketball games, birthday parties, and family celebrations. Nothing gave her more pleasure than quilting, doing alterations, and sewing projects for her family and friends.
Margaret was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Science Hill where she regularly attended until her health prevented it. She looked forward to the ladies' monthly trips also.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde whom she married on December 30, 1949; two sisters, Evalene Sowder Moore Blevins, and Eudena Sowder Cash; one brother, Mitchell "Bud" Sowder, Jr. Also preceding her in death were her nephews, Kenny Moore, Harold Cash, Wayne Sowder, and Paul Colbert.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews Sandy Colbert, David & (Kera) Cash, Gerald & (Tammy) Cash, Diana Cash, Margie & (Andy) Kardeen, Jennie & (Wendell) McQueen, and Tina Sowder. Margaret is also survived by a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews whom she loved very much and enjoyed their company more than they even realize. She is also survived by a very special friend and church member, Connie Claunch.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Scotty Nix officiating.
Burial will be in Science Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends after 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
