Larry VanHoose

October 11, 1950 — June 3, 2024

Larry Randall VanHoose, age 73 - Christian, Husband, Father, Grandfather,
Educator, Air Force Veteran, Patriot, and Friend - made his final honor flight to
his Heavenly Home on Monday, June 3, 2024, departing from the V.A. Hospital
in Lexington, KY. He fought a heroic battle with convergent health issues, being
nevertheless comforted and cared for by amazing health care providers and with
loved ones by his side. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Randall and
Faye VanHoose and a sister, Terry Bond.

Larry leaves behind a beloved family to celebrate and honor him: Deborah, his
wife of 48 years; his daughter Laura and son-in-law Shane Baker of Somerset:
his son Isaac and daughter-in-law Kari VanHoose of Georgetown; five
grandchildren: Gabe Baker, Caleb Baker, Elijah VanHoose, Lovella VanHoose,
and Anderson VanHoose; and his sister, Sondra and brother-in-law Joseph Clark
of Cincinnati. Additionally, Larry awaits the Heavenly reunion of many other dear
relatives currently residing near and far.

Larry’s professional life centered around his quest for excellence in education.
He made a positive impact on students and colleagues of McCreary County and
Pulaski County Schools, Monticello Independent Schools, Somerset Christian
School, and Midway University, where with wise and prudent teaching and
administration, he instructed and guided for over four decades. Larry always
found it gratifying when he’d run into former students or colleagues, and
reminiscing old days, they always seemed to have nice and appreciative
memories of his educational impact upon their lives.

Additionally, Larry’s genuine Christian identity could be seen in his life of service
to the Lord. Whether it be as a deacon, a song leader, choir member, Sunday
school teacher, mission team member, bus driver, VBS volunteer, or any number
of other opportunities of service, Larry’s passion was for the Church, and his
desire was to serve the Lord. With a beautiful singing voice and wise
administrative discernment, he loved to use his talents to further the Gospel.
Most recently as Larry’s health began to fail, his sweetest hour would be in
attendance at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church or studying in Bro. Herman
Campbell’s Sunday school class, which he dearly loved.

It was also during Larry’s brief but intense illness that he discovered the utmost
in medical care and compassion through Health Professionals of the Department
of Veterans Affairs. Constantly being reminded of their sincere appreciation for
his Service to our Country, Larry walked a little taller and smiled a little brighter
knowing his sacrifices as a young airman in Southeastern Asia were not being
ignored. Indeed, when asked the hypothetical: “Larry, if you’d known back in
1968 what you know now about the ravages of Agent Orange upon your body
today, would you have still served?”, Larry’s answer was a resounding “Yes!”. A
dedicated patriot, Larry Randall VanHoose lived well, with no regrets. An
exemplary man - sometimes referred to by others as “rock” or “anchor” - Larry’s
heavenly promotion is not to be mourned, but celebrated. Truly, he was a Man.
