Larry Cooper, 93, of Somerset, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at the Thompson Hood Veterans Center.
Larry was born on March 17, 1932 to the late Roy and Pearl (Dickerson) Cooper in Ferndale, Michigan. He was a member of Union Church of Christ. Larry had a passion for cars and he enjoyed car shows. He loved his cats and was known as the Cat Whisperer. He served in the Air Force for 4 years, where he was a gunner on B29's during the Korean War. As a small business owner, he owned a Gas Station and Repair Shop. He was very knowledgeable in mechanics. Larry enjoyed a good meal and good conversations with friends. He had a favorite phrase in life, "Work Smarter, Not Harder." He could spin a good story and always had a funny quip, where he could make anyone laugh. He volunteered with VFW and participated in the Honor Guard. Larry really enjoyed life, but most importantly he loved being with his late wife, Florence Cooper. Over the years, he remained very close with his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his children, Garry Cooper, Linda (Joseph) Blevins, and Ruth Ellis; a brother, Donald Lewis (Catherine) Cooper; six grandchildren, Travis Cotton, Nathan Cotton, Tarra Cotton, Hanna Blevins Britt (Daniel), Sarah Blevins Hearn (Mark), and Jordan Blevins; six great-grandchildren; nephews, Wayne Morgan and Harrison Wells; and a niece, Ronda Cooper.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence (Golf) Cooper; his parents; his brother, James Lee Cooper; his sisters, Joyce Cooper Morgan and Margaret Cooper Wells; and other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Thompson Hood Veterans Center for the care of their father during his time there. They would also like to thank friends and family for making his life enjoyable!
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 23, 2025 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Ponder and Bro. Charles officiating.
Burial will follow at Science Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until time for services.
Military Honors will be preformed by American Legion Post 38.
