Kathleen Spencer

Florence Kathleen Spencer, having attained the age of 91, passed from this life at her home in Nancy, Kentucky on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 3:05 pm. 

She was born on March 17, 1931 in Pulaski County, Kentucky. Kathleen was the daughter of Dewey and Ethel Burton. She was united in marriage to Glendon Spencer in Lafayette, Indiana on December 10, 1954. After her graduation from Nancy High School in 1949, Kathleen went on to obtain her LPN license through Somerset City Hospital and Norton Healthcare Institute. The majority of her career was devoted to her twenty-one years at Indiana Veterans Home. Kathleen was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. 

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, three daughters: Connie Blevins (Mike) of Nancy, Debbie Glick (Tim) of Lafayette, Indiana and Sandy Hopkins (Todd) of Russellville, Indiana; seven grandchildren: Lisa Hines (Chris) of Nancy; Matthew Blevins of Nancy; Lauren Stearns (Alex) of Lafayette, Indiana; Sarah Miller (Ryan) of Olympia, Washington; Ben Blevins of Nancy; Holly Eggersman (Evan) of Seymour, Indiana and Colin Glick of Liberty, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren: Julia Eggersman, Blake Miller, Emma Stearns, Clayton Miller, Mia Hines, Eva Hines, and Brian Hines. Kathleen leaves behind two sisters, Eardean Dunn (J.T.) of Nicholasville, Kentucky; Fostine Keeney of Science Hill; one brother, Granville “Sonny” Burton (Aileen) of Nancy and extended family and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents and husband, Kathleen was preceded in death by one sister, Geraldine Crouch; two brothers, Otis Burton and Othel Burton; two brothers-in- law, Joe Crouch and Richard Keeney; two sisters-in-law, Janie Crouch and Ruth Ann Burton as well as several nieces and nephews.

Kathleen loved being around her family and friends, always putting them first. She had high expectations and was very proud of her family. Kathleen enjoyed crocheting, gardening, sewing, playing board games, and watching sports, especially when family members participated. She never met a stranger.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 6, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Morris &  Hislope Funeral Home, 5900 N. Highway 27, Somerset, KY. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Associate Pastor Danny Rowland officiating.

Burial will be at Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy.
