Katherine "Lorene" Brown Ponder, 74, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed peacefully from this life on June 28, 2020, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Brodhead, Kentucky, daughter of the late J.L. and Dorothy Myrtle Cable Brown. She worked in retail and child care for several years.
She is survived by her husband, William E. (Bill) Ponder Jr., whom she married August 7, 1966, at the Providence Church of Christ, one son, Ryan & (Pam) Ponder, of London, one daughter, Gretchen & (Michael) Wheeler, of Ann Arbor, Michigan. And grandsons, Nicholas Ponder, Aiden Wheeler, Blake, Addison, and Kendan Napier. She is also survived by brothers, Derl & (Glenda) Brown, and Coy & (Lois Gayle) Brown, sisters, Shirley & (Bill) Long, Betty Jo & (Danny) Mckinney, and Debra & (Wayne) Taylor, and sisters-in-law, Deborah& (Thomas) Philbeck, Phyllis & (Eddie) Brock, Judy & (Mike) Feldcamp, Thelma & (Donald) Bullock, and Linda & (Harold) Reynolds. To mourn her passing, she also leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, Norma Kay, and sisters, Gayle Malone, and Karen Doner.
Lorene was a loving wife and mother. A devoted Christian of impeccable character, obeying the gospel at an early age. A longtime member of the Union Church of Christ, in Science Hill, Kentucky. She always saw the right and had the courage to do it. A person of class, her presence added credibility and strength to those about her. While having many skills and abilities, she gave her life to family and friends, having the foresight to assess a situation, and putting her whole self into it to help making it better.
A funeral service will be held, Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 1 pm, at the Morris & Hislope Funeral Home, Science Hill, Kentucky with Bro. Randy Reynolds officiating.
Visitation will be after 11 am Thursday, until the time of service.
Burial will follow in the Providence Cemetery, Quail, Kentucky.
