Listen to Obituary

Josephine Ruby Hodge Harrison, age 91, of Waynesburg, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026. She was born on April 15, 1935, in Lincoln County to the late Charlie and Birdie Kidd Hodge.

Ruby lived a life full of love, strength, and quiet talent. A true jack of all trades, she worked on the farm and spent time at McAninch's Dairy, where she could often be heard softly singing and humming to the milk cows-just one small reflection of the gentle spirit she carried throughout her life.

Her home was always open, and her heart even more so. Ruby lovingly welcomed many foster children over the years, giving them not only a place to stay, but a sense of belonging, comfort, and unconditional love. She found joy in life's simple blessings-drawing, songwriting, gardening, fishing, and hunting squirrel and rabbit. Some of her most treasured moments were spent with her grandchildren, sitting side by side playing Nintendo or working puzzles, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. She also had a special bond with her beloved dog, Chocolate, whom she loved and cared for as one of her own children.

Ruby had a gift for building and creating anything she set her mind to, but her greatest work was the life she built around her family. She was a God-fearing woman-strong-willed, independent, yet incredibly sweet and caring, with a soul that radiated kindness to all who knew her.

She was a devoted mother and homemaker whose love was the foundation of her family.

She is survived by her children, Sue Kates (Wayne) of Waynesburg and James Harrison of Waynesburg; along with a large and loving legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.

She is now reunited in eternal peace with her beloved husband, Walter Harrison; her son, Hughie Boggs; and her siblings, Mamie Hodge, Irene (Kelly) Hodge, Rielly Owen (Buddy), George Carlos, Joanne Hodge, Jonas Calvin "Joney" Hodge )Barbra Hodge), & James Melvin "Hooten" Hodge (Faye Hodge)

She also leaves behind her siblings, Delbert Hodge (Wendy) and Joyce Pike, along with extended family and dear friends who were blessed to know her.

Though she is no longer with us, Ruby's love, her songs, her strength, and her gentle spirit will live on in every life she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
