John Bryan Thomas

Our hearts are heavy as we announce the passing of John Bryan Thomas, loving father and grandfather, who passed away Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the Jean Waddle Care Center.

John was born in Clay County, Kentucky on July 12, 1959. He was of the Baptist faith. After graduating in 1977, he worked as a land surveyor, where he enjoyed the freedom of working outside and excelled as a surveyor. He loved to play the guitar and mandolin and many evenings were spent with him playing through hymns, country, and bluegrass tunes while we sang along.

John had many friends and was greatly loved by all. In 1978, John married Alice Marcum and they had four wonderful children. In turn, they were blessed with four beautiful grandchildren whom he was so proud of and dearly loved.

John was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Thomas; his loving mother, Evelyn Thomas; and a grandson, William Ryan Wright.

He leaves behind his former wife, Alice Thomas; their children, Erin (Thomas) Wright, Jacob Thomas & (Paweena), Keri Thomas, and Jared Thomas; three grandchildren, Makayla Thomas Croley, Jordan Thomas, and Natalee Thomas; his sister, Julia Bishop; and his sister-in-law, Cindy & (Larry) Phillips. He is also survived by several nieces, a nephew, and a host of cousins and friends.

John was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all. His pain and suffering is over and he is at peace. We look forward to the day when we will meet again in the presence of Christ, our beloved Lord and risen Saviour.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 14, 2026 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Monty Wells officiating.

Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11:00 AM until time for services at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
