Jesse "J.D." Whitaker

Jesse D. "J.D." Whitaker, 76, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born in Squib, Kentucky, on July 1, 1942, son of the late Melvin and Ina Burdine Whitaker. He was an over the road truck driver for Cumberland Wood & Chair, Ikerd and Bandy, Ready Mix, Super Service and McClenden Trucking. J.D. loved his cats, Pumpkin, Baby and Hershey. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and watching Western movies. He always enjoyed time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Rebecca "Becky" Childers Whitaker, four children, Sandra E. Whitaker, Lisa L. & (Doug) Ridner, Jesse Shawn Whitaker and Lora A. & (Phillip) Walker, all of Somerset, seven grandchildren Samantha C. & (Joshua) Bannochie, Jesse G. Whitaker, Marcus Elliott Dick, Carissa K. Whitaker, Sara Rose Walker, Clayton D. Whitaker and Songa Whitaker, all of Somerset, two great-grandchildren, Gracie J. Whitaker and Presley M. Moore, both of Somerset, one brother, Wayne & (Shirley) Whitaker of Shopville, three sisters, Shirley & (Lando) Adams of Shopville, Mary & (Fred) Beebe of Ohio and Lulabell & (Bob) Couch of Indiana and sister-in-law, Geraldine Whitaker of Shopville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Norman Whitaker, who died in infancy and George Lee Whitaker and one sister, Elizabeth Sours.

A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Renner officiating.

Burial will be in Raney Family Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 11 AM Tuesday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
