Jerry Wayne Floyd

d. October 1, 2023

Jerry Wayne Floyd was born November 14,1957 in Indianapolis IN to the late Leslie (Bud) and Thelma (Hargis) Floyd. Jerry was the middle of three children.

His older sister Donna Jean Floyd preceded him in death just 6 short months ago.

His brother Larry Floyd as well as many loved nieces and nephews are left behind. Jerry married Robin Ann Sizelove on 01/16/1982.This was during a great snow storm ,he always made sure everyone knew about it . Their first child , Amanda Katherine Floyd was born 11/05/1982, he would say , she ruined a perfectly good hunting trip” The youngest child, Robert Leslie Floyd was born 02/01/1988. He finally got a son. But then, in September of 2004 he got to be a papaw to Chloe Case Gray and that’s when he received what he would say was the apple of his eye.

Jerry never, ever, ever met a stranger. It was actually painful to attempt to go anywhere in public and hope they may just have a simple meal or conversation. He always said where are you from? Where’s your people from? He never forgot a face afterwards.

Jerry started work at a very early age (16)for Tecumseh. He started pole climbing for RECC at age 18,he later went to work for Kentucky Utilities and loved every minute of it until he was forced to retire following an automobile accident. He didn’t understand people who could sleep in late or get through life without working. If he had free time it was to be filled. He would mow neighbors lawns if it meant he didn’t have to be still, and did so often. Jerry made so many friends over the years. Countless at this point. He lived by a to-do list that he wrote down daily. After being diagnosed with cancer several
months prior he decided he would still live by a to-do list, and it kept him going up until the end.

If he was awake he wanted everyone else to be awake as well. He would say if you lay in bed all day you’ll pee on yourself. He was only late one time in his life. After missing a whole day’s wages he was determined to never be late again and he wasn’t. He was at least 30 min early and then later in life it would stretch to 3 hours early most times Again, this drove his family crazy.

He was prepared leading up to the very moment he left this earth on October 1, 2023. On that day he situated things at home without telling anyone, and set out to take Chloe back to college after she had visited for the weekend. He insisted on checking into his room first and having Robin take Chloe over to her dorm. He insisted on pushing in the luggage. When Robin returned less than an hour later she found his clothes neatly folded on the bed and Jerry tucked in with his book. He knowingly prepared everyone else before passing on.

He loved to joke and he loved to work and he loved his family.
