James Edward Cooper

James Edward Cooper, 89, of Lebanon, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018.

He was born in Cleveland, Mississippi on March 10, 1929, oldest son of the late James Albert and Rose Eddison Walker Cooper. He graduated from David Lipscomb College with an English degree and became a Church of Christ minister. He started preaching in 1947. While preaching in Kentucky he met and married Anna Aline Bishop of Eubank. James will be remembered as a father with unwavering faith in his religious beliefs.


He is survived by four sons, James Peter Cooper of Abilene, TX, Paul Mark Cooper of Lebanon, OH, Patrick Lee Cooper of Puryear, TN and Perry Dale Cooper of Baltimore, MD, one daughter, Pamela Jo Melendez of Lebanon, TN, one brother, George Cooper of Decatur, AL, three grandchildren, James Melendez, Cameron Cooper and Tasha Cooper, three step grandchildren, Reid Kyker, Kathleen Yancey and Kayhine Harper, one great-grandchild, Angelique Vannatter and three step great-grandchildren, Julia Kyker, Addison Kyker and Landon Yancey.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Aline Bishop Cooper, whom he married on September 7, 1953 and who died on February 22, 2018, his parents, three brothers, Samuel, Oscar and Ralph Cooper and one sister, Bettie Cooper Channell.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be after 10 AM Saturday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
