Geneva Deatherage

Geneva Deatherage of Eubank, KY, age 93 years, 10 months and 10 days, died June 3rd, 2020 at Somerset, KY.

She was born July 24, 1926, the daughter of Arthur Burton and Tressa Buchanan Burton. She was the oldest of eight children. Of those eight, surviving are: Lindsay Burton (Earlene) and Thurman Burton.

Geneva was married to Bert Deatherage for 53 plus years and was a member of Eubank Baptist Church.

She was the mother of two children: Janice Burton Dickens (Doug) and Berta Sue Deatherage Ware (Dale).

Geneva (Mawmaw) was Grandmother of four: Ronald Lee Stephens Jr., Jennifer Lynn Stephens, Tressa Ann Ware McElroy, and Nathan Dale Ware. She was Great Grandmother of five: Parker Stephens, Emily Godby, Lauren McElroy, Morgan McElroy, and Nicole Ware.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers: Henley, Linville and Larry, two sisters: Areva and Leila, and one grandchild: Jennifer Stephens.

She worked as a bookkeeper for several years and could add numbers accurately on an adding machine, while talking on the phone at the same time.

She loved to sew, making dresses for her daughters and her granddaughter Tressa, suit jackets for her grandson Nathan and many, many quilts for her family. She was an avid Kentucky Wildcat Basketball Fan.

Funeral services for Geneva will be held 2pm, June 8th at Morris and Hislope Funeral Home, with Brother Scott Hughes officiating. Visitation will be at 11 am for family. Visitation for friends of Geneva and her family will be from 12 noon until time for services. Burial will be in the Eubank Cemetery.
