Donald Knorr

May 24, 1932 — June 20, 2019

Donald Knorr entered his Heavenly home on June 20th, 2019, in Bluffton, SC. Born in Hunter, ND, on May 24, 1932, he was 87 years of age.

Donald served the Lord all his life as a Sunday School Superintendent, a Deacon, Training Union Leader, Chairman of the Building Committee, Chairman of the Finance Committee and Chairman of the First Baptist Christian School. While living in Somerset, KY, he attended Slate Branch Baptist Church. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Hilton Head, SC.

Donald served in the United States Naval Air Force during the Korean War, where he taught instrument flying.

Donald taught Science and Mathematics at Haines City Jr. High School, and later taught these subjects at Haines City High School in Haines City, FL, from 1959 - 1966. He was a Professor of Mathematics and Physics at the former Polk Community College (now Polk State College) in Winter Haven, FL, from 1966 until his retirement in 1991.

Donald was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, son-in-law, teacher and friend. His wife and family adored him. He treated his in-laws, Rev. Orden Rice and Lydia Rice, like his own parents, giving of himself every day to help insure a quality of life for their elder, less healthy years. His kindness touched their lives and they loved him as their own son. Throughout his life, he was kind, compassionate, always ready to lend a helping hand of support and always gave freely of himself and his time for the needs of others. He was also a wonderful gourmet cook.

Donald took great pride in his three children and their accomplishments. He was especially proud of their musical talent in piano and violin. He was so proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them as they grew up.

He is survived by his beloved family: Wife of 52 years, Gladys Faye Rice Knorr, of Bluffton, SC ; daughter Andrea Lucretia (Thomas Joseph) Knorr Anton of Belvidere, IL, and grandchildren Megan Leigh Moore of Belvidere, IL; Theodore Thomas Moore lll of Two Rivers, WI; Tyler Michael (Alecia) Anton, both of Manitowoc, WI; Kristopher Joseph (Jess) Anton of Milwaukee, WI and Kasey Donald Anton of Madison, WI; daughter Lydia Marlene (Owen Keith) Knorr Smith and grandchildren Jeremy Owen Smith, Nathan Robert Smith and Sophia Rose Smith, of Bluffton, SC; son Orden Wilhelm Knorr of Germantown, MD, and grandchildren Cameron Scott Knorr of Virginia Beach, VA; Emma Annalise Knorr and Kyla Elizabeth Knorr of San Diego, CA; great grandson, Harlan of San Diego,CA; Travis Walker Knorr of Highland City, FL; Codi Alexander (Randi) Knorr of Valders, WI; great grandsons Kayden and Garrett of Valders, WI; sisters Vivian Gladys Knorr Sund of Camano Island, WA, and Marlene Lucille Knorr Ames of Fargo, ND; sister-in-law, Delores Knorr of Moorhead, MN; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by these beloved members of his family: parents Martha Lena Herrmann Knorr and Andreas Elmer Wilhelm Knorr; sister Dorothy Knorr; brothers Leonard (Mildred) Knorr, Edwin (Florence) Knorr, Robert (Delores) Knorr and Grover Knorr; brothers-in-law, Harold Sund and Richard Ames; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. Orden Rice and Lydia L. McKeehan Rice.

A funeral service will be held at 12 PM Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Dawson officiating.

Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.

Interment will be in the McKinney Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6 PM Monday, June 24, 2019 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
