Dewey E. Phillips, 84, of Somerset, passed away on Tuesday, October 08, 2019.
He was born in Lincoln County on February 20, 1935; son of the late Dewey H. & Leathie (Baugh) Phillips. He attended Waynesburg Elementary, Harrison High School in Chicago, and obtained a college degree from EKU. He then returned to Waynesburg Elementary for his first teaching job. He also worked at the Cicero, Illinois School District 99 as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. He was also the school principal of Stuart Elementary School in Cleveland, Tennessee; taught computer classes at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tennessee; and taught computer classes at Somerset Community College. He also attended New Life Church of God in Waynesburg.
He is survived by his wife Betty (Thompson) Phillips; a son, Kerry W. Phillips of Rossville, Georgia; two daughters, Karen R. & (Larry) Maynard of Woodridge, Illinois and Kathryn A. Phillips of Aurora, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Shelby Phillips of Cleveland Tennessee; a daughter-in-law, Tammy Phillips of Ooltewah, Tennessee; several aunts & uncles; four grand-children, Brandon M. Maynard, Brett W. Schickram, Matthew A. Phillips, & Brittany N. Schickram; and several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kenneth R. Phillips; a brother, Lester Phillips; and a sister, Betty Lou Miles.
A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Pastors David Eastham & Sam Smith officiating.
Burial will be at Double Springs Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 11:00 AM Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations towards the Kidney Foundation.
