Connie Ray Frederick, 86, of Waynesburg, KY, left this world to meet our Lord and Savior after a short illness at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, KY on December 26, 2024. He was born June 20, 1938 to the late Dillard Carson Frederick and Reba (Gooch) Frederick in Kings Mountain, KY. He was one of ten children.
Connie served and was proud to be a United States Navy veteran. He spent part of his service on the MSC-193 Jacana. It was a Minesweeper ship that had demagnetized electric cables that trailed the ship, creating a pulsing magnetic field causing types of mines to detonate behind the ship and leaving the vessel undetected. At night, he alternated keeping watch over the seas in a lookout tower. After the service, he worked for Dawson Bridge Company and as a supervisor for many years at Cowden Manufacturing in Lexington, KY.
He married his wife, Velma, November 21, 1962. Together they raised and loved three children he was very proud of. He was overjoyed to become a grand and great-grandfather. He also enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and doing anything with family. He never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Brenda Frederick, Jane Moore, Berthelia Noe, Richard Frederick, and Joyce Yvonne Watkins.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife, Velma (Wilcher) Frederick; one son, Timothy R. Frederick (Jamie); two daughters, Cynthia A. Patton (Joel) and Jennifer L. Jenkins (Bryan); three grandchildren, Katelin Raye Hatter (Robbie), John Clement Christopher Heun (Teresa Volpe), and Andrew Michael Paul Patton (Liara); two great-grandchildren, Michael James Hatter and McCoy Paul Patton; one brother, Garland (Buddy) Frederick; three sisters, Wanda Flynn, Claudine Bryant, and Barbara Spencer.
Gratitude to Kathy Lieberman and her assistant, Terri, over the many years. Gratitude to Kim Pyles and Sheena Holland for years of help and friendship at Veterans Clinic in Somerset, KY. We will forever be grateful to all the doctors (special thanks to Dr. John Marcum and Dr. Esther L. Greco) and nurses for loving and compassionate care at VA Medical Center in Lexington, KY. Appreciation to those that cared for him at Thomson-Hood Veteran Center in Wilmore, KY.
