Clarice Maxine Salyers, left this world for her eternal reward February 8, 2026 at Somerwoods Nursing and Rehab in Somerset, Kentucky.
She was born on May 20, 1936 to Mack and Susie Turner Stephens. She married Norman Salyers on July 28, 1951 and together they had three children; Kathy, Donna, and David. Maxine was known for many things, She was a skilled nurse, ESL tutor, literacy teacher, quilter,
painter, and as owner of Cabin Fever Quilt Shop a business woman. She was a dedicated member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church for 58 years many of which she spent teaching in the children's department. Maxine was also an active member of WMU, sang in the choir and worked in the Christmas program Journey to Bethlehem for over 20 years. Maxine was a bold witness to others about her savior.
She leaves behind her three children; Kathy (Reese) Stringer of Somerset, Kentucky, Donna (Reed) Watson of Science Hill, Kentucky and David Salyers of Fort Lee, New Jersey. She was also the proud granny of four grandchildren; Bryan (Tammie) Stringer, Stephanie (Paul) Smith, Jared (Christy) Kemper and Krista (Brent) Singleton. She received much joy from her ten great grandchildren; Blake, Braeden, and Bailey Stringer, Lucas, and Lauren Smith, Cora, Dakota and Noah Singleton as well as Jase and Kinley Kemper. She is also survived by an aunt, Dorothy Cook of Sellersburg, Indiana, two sisters; Wanda (Jimmy) Henderson and Betty Lou (Marvin) Wall, one brother, Wayne (Jane) Stephens as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers; Oliver Bastin, Lonnie McKinney, and Ray, Ronald Lee, Glen and Larry Stephens as well as six sisters; Bonnie Smith, Beulah Singleton, Faye Guinn, Norma Salyers, Margie Hall and Joann Stephens who passed away in infancy.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026 in the chapel of Morris and Hislope Funeral Home at 11:00 AM with Pastor Todd Young, Bro. Danny Rowland and Bro. Wayne Stephens officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 on Thursday, February 12, 2026 in the chapel of Morris and Hislope Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Pilot Baptist Church Cemetery.
Bryan Stringer, Paul Smith, Jared Kemper, Blake Stringer, Braeden Stringer and Lucas Smith will serve as pallbearers.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 1685 KY- 3091, Somerset, Kentucky 42503 or to The Gideons International.
Morris and Hislope is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
