Charles Bishop

Charles Ray Newell Bishop, age 90, of Eubank, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023, at his home in Eubank, Kentucky.

He was born March 4, 1933 in Eubank, Kentucky on the farm he was raised, lived, and worked on all his life. Son of the late Chester Emmitt and Vida Estes Bishop, he attended the old Mayfield School on Hwy 452 and was a member for over 69 years of the Etna Church of Christ where he was a song leader and bible class teacher for many years. 

He is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Mary Elizabeth Detherage of Lockland, Ohio; and four children, Timothy Ray & (Freda) Bishop of Somerset, Charles Mark Bishop of Eubank; Cathy Elizabeth & (Randy) Reynolds of Eubank, and Rebecca Dorita Spillman of Somerset; five grandchildren, Katieann Olivia & (Timothy) Ford of Somerset, Adam Daniel Reynolds and Hannah Grace Reynolds both of Lexington, Lyndsey Annaliese Spillman and Simon Noah Bishop Spillman both of Somerset; two grandchildren by marriage, Phillip & (Kendra) Cooper and Andrew & (Karissa) Cooper both of Somerset; six great-grandchildren, Autumn Gregory, Landon, Matilynn, Kinsley, Carson, and Kamryn Cooper all of Somerset; ten nephews, one niece, and several great and great-great nephews and nieces, and cousins; two sisters, Marie Bishop of Eubank and Ethel Faye Shelton of Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Vida Bishop; three sisters, Hazel and Claude Absher, Aline and James Cooper, and Hettie and Ernest Winstead; and a brother-in-law, Silas Shelton.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Reynolds and Bro. Steve Lee officiating.

Burial will be in Science Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Monday, August 28, 2023 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
