Betty Lou Dodson

March 27, 1938 — April 8, 2024

Betty Lou Smith Dodson, 86, of Science Hill, gained her wings on April 8, 2024 at Somerset Nursing and Rehab. Betty was born on March 27, 1938 to the late Doolin and Flossie Smith.

Betty was a beautiful, independent, strong, and hardworking mother of four. She spent many summers in the tobacco fields. She worked as a caregiver and was a factory worker at Lear Sigler in Somerset and a bottling company in Chicago.

Betty loved Jesus and was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Science Hill. She truly loved her pastor Brother Berry and his wife Sister Berry.

Betty enjoyed singing with her daughter, Tammy, canning with her daughter, Kim, and going out to eat and getting milkshakes with her daughter, Sandy.

She enjoyed having morning coffee with her son, Randy and her brothers.

Betty loved to sit outside with her family and enjoyed watching and feeding the birds. Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, and listening to Billy Graham, were a few of her favorite things to watch. She enjoyed working her crossword puzzles and playing Rummy and Solitaire with her family.

Betty was a wonderful cook. Her family loved her macaroni and tomatoes, corn on the cob, oatmeal, chocolate gravy, and blackberry dumplings. Most of all, Betty loved her kids, grandkids, and family.

Left behind to cherish Betty's memory are her son, Randy & (Margie) Dodson; her daughters, Sandy & (Marlin) Rose, Tammy & (Ralph) Wesley, and Kim & (Danny) Roberts; her grandchildren, Tonya Wesley & (Justin Nicholas), Vinson & (Brenda) Durham, Tosha Rose, Amy & (Federico) Maldonado, Tyrone & (Ashley) Wesley, Colleen & (Chris) Hart, Dane Dodson & (Lillian Bennett), Bryce Dodson & (Keshia Nolen); her great-grandchildren, Justin Dykes & (Natasha Wooley), Cheyenne Dykes & (Jay Hurst), Kegan & (Makayla) Durham, Skyler Dykes, Dakota & (Alexis) Poynter, Logan Wesley & (Jayden Browning), Nathan Hart & (Breanna Keeney), Christian Hart, Dakayla Poynter, Chloe Hart, Karleigh Durham, Tylee Wesley, Cinnamon Hart, Cali Hart, Gabriel Dodson, Emma Dodson, Ezra Dodson & Teodora Maldonado; her great-great-grandchildren, Kaden Durham, Greyson Flores, Lakelyn Flores, Bradi Durham, Raven Hurst, and Natalie Poynter; her brothers, Paul & (Joyce) Smith, Frank Smith, and Warren Smith; her sisters, Christine Dodson, & Mary Catherine Wesley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
