Alberta Mae Abbott Cook-Wittenborn, 88, of Payson, AZ, passed away in Bakersfield, CA on February 11, 2018 to anxiously join her Heavenly family.
Alberta was born in Somerset, KY in June of 1929 to the late Samuel and Armilda (Stevens) Abbott.
She graduated from high school in Whittier, CA. Alberta was married to Kenneth Jack Cook on October 8, 1950; they were married 29 happy years. In 1980, Alberta trained as a Mobile Dealer and assumed management of her late husband’s service station in Pomona, CA.
Alberta loved the arts and had extensive experience painting in a variety of mediums. After relocating to Arizona, she taught oil and watercolor painting for Eastern Arizona College in Payson for over 20 years. It was during this time she married her second husband, Barney Wittenborn. Alberta had an open door for neighbors and friends and was always ready to share her next cup of tea with a kindred spirit. She was an avid reader and loved to share current reads with any captive audience. Alberta also loved to play the piano and played hymns for the Chapel in the Pines in Strawberry, AZ. In later years, she was creatively involved in many Christian ministries at the Payson First Church the of Nazarene.
Alberta is survived by her 3 children Julia Ann Long, Brenda Joy Hunter (Ogden), and Kelly John Cook, 4 grand-children, 7 great grand-children, and host of family and friends.
A graveside service will be held 2 PM Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Woodstock Cemetery with Bro. Roger Long officiating.
Burial will follow in the Woodstock Cemetery.
