Earl B. Poynter, 96, of Science Hill, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Ocala, Kentucky on July 26, 1920, son of the late Virgil Oather and Lillie Eldridge Poynter. He was retired from Ford Motor Company in Indiana and a member of Union Church of Christ. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran where he was a heavy truck driver, automotive mechanic and carpenter. He is survived by two sons, Steve & (Faye) Poynter of Science Hill and Roger & (Lisa) Poynter of Ferguson, five daughters, Lois Caplinger, Kathy & (Dan) Kuntz and Nancy & (Dan) Ralston, all of Shelbyville, IN, Janice Poynter & (James) of New Palestine, IN and Tina & (Doug) Walton of Shelbyville, IN, seventeen grandchildren, thirty four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee Thurman Poynter, who died on July 7, 2016, his parents, one son, Bobby Poynter, five brothers, Ray Poynter, Woodrow Poynter, Dewey Poynter, Clarence Poynter and Glen Poynter, three sisters, Dean Price, Beauna Whitis and Lucille Smith and three grandchildren, John Burdine, Bradley Barngrover and Eric Ralston. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Friday, March 24, 2017 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Ponder officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #38. Visitation will be after 6 PM Thursday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home. Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
