Dale Cain Phelps, 77, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away Friday, November 28, 2014.
He was born in Science Hill, Kentucky on April 4, 1937, son of the late Earl Cardin and Grace Cain Phelps. He was a retired teacher, a longtime basketball and golf coach, then served as athletic director until his retirement from Tullahoma High School. He was a star basketball player for Somerset High School and Tennessee Tech University. He is in the Somerset Hall of fame as the 2nd leading scorer after only playing two years at Somerset High School. He lived most of his adult life in Tennessee, before recently moving to Louisville.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Duke Phelps of Louisville, KY, one son, Bob Phelps of Louisville, KY, one daughter, Susan & (Waring) Trible of Dunnesville, VA, one brother, David & (Carolyn) Phelps of Science Hill, four grandchildren, Sarah Phelps, Blake Pearce, Abbie Pearce and Ella Trible and two step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Nancy Jean Dick and daughter-in-law, Kim Arms Phelps.
A graveside service will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Science Hill Cemetery.
Burial will be in Science Hill Cemetery.
