Geneva Phelps Jackson

June 16, 1918 — March 19, 2014

Geneva Phelps Jackson, age 95, of Stanford, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, Kentucky, following a short illness. Geneva was the widow of Elwyn Jackson, her husband of 53 years, who passed away on November 16, 2000.  She was born in eastern Pulaski County on June 16, 1918, daughter of the late Frank and Balzora Phelps. She was a homemaker and loved to garden and cook for family and friends.  She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church #1 in eastern Pulaski County. Geneva moved to Stanford in 2005 to make her home with her daughter, Jeanne.  She regularly attended Grace Fellowship Church and was actively involved in worship, her Sunday School Class and Senior Friends. Geneva is survived by a daughter, Jeanne Compton-Brown and her husband, Vola Brown of Stanford, a grandson, Jeremy Compton of Nancy, a step-grandson, Stephen Brown of Lexington and a step-granddaughter, Kim Brown Jones of Stanford.  Further surviving are seven step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, seven brothers and sisters, Dora Keeney, Ada Fulcher, Madeline Sewell, Murrell Phelps, Ralph Phelps, Leda Jones and James Estle Phelps. A celebration of life service will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill, KY with Bro. Vola Brown, Bro. Kevin Pettus and Bro. Dave Muse officiating. Burial will be in Somerset Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10 AM Saturday until time for services at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home. Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
